Alibaba own cloud AI chip : Hanguang 800

Alibaba services are now powered by its very own cloud AI chip, “ Hanguang 800”.
During its yearly Apsara Conference, Alibaba unveiled its new AI chip that is going to specializes in managing machine learning activities and will be utilized to enhance the providers of Hanguang 800 is the name of the cloud AI chip it is the first developed AI chip and is helping the company power several services including automatic translation, product search.
“The launch of Hanguang 800 is a crucial stage in our goal of next-generation technologies, boosting computing abilities which will get both our emerging as well as in the current businesses while energy efficiency being improved”, said Alibaba CTO Jeff Zhang.
A company spokesman mentioned for now Alibaba has no plans in selling Hanguang 800 as a stand-alone commercial product and will remain in-house.
The chip itself was created by an Alibaba analysis institute launched at the end of 2017 known as DAMO Academy together with the business’s specialized semiconductor division, T Head.
Alibaba’s entry into the chip industry comes at a time when Beijing is attempting to market China’s semiconductor industry while simultaneously cutting back on the country’s reliance on brought in. US tech giants Facebook and Google will also be working on creating their custom chips to enhance the overall performance of special AI tasks at their information centers.
