Dharam Singh Deol, known as Dharmendra, is an Indian actor, patron, and politician, substantially known for his work in Hindi and numerous Punjabi flicks. Known as Bollywood’s first’ He-Man’, Dharmendra acted in more than 300 pictures during his 6- time career and is one of the topmost actors in the history of Indian cinema. 

He earned the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 for his contributions to Indian cinema. He’s a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party( BJP) constituency of Bikaner in Rajasthan. He received India’s third-loftiest mercenary honour, the Padma Bhushan, from the Government of India in 2012.

Dharmendra was born to a Jat Sikh family, Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur, in Sahnewal, Ludhiana District, Punjab, British India. His ancestral vill is Dangon, near Pakhowal Tehsil Raikot in Ludhiana. 

He spent his early years in the vill of Sahnewal, studying at a public high academy in Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana, where his father was the vill academy’s headmaster. He completed his scale from Phagwara in 1952. At that time, Punjab University was combined with Punjab University in Chandigarh.

Winner of the National Organization of Filmfare Magazine’s final award, Dharmendra travelled from Punjab to Mumbai to work on a film that promised to be a winner, but the film wasn’t made. In 1960, he made his film debut in Arjun Hingorani’s Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere.  She had a supporting part in the 1961 film The Boy and played the love interest in several flicks from 1960 to 1967. 

He did a lot of pictures with different actresses, directors, and directors. Some of his blockbusters featured beautiful actresses. He has worked with Nutan in Soorat Aur Seerat(1962), Bandini(1963), Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya(1966), and Dulhan Ek Raat Ki(1967); with Mala Sinha in Anpadh(1962), Pooja Ke Phool(1964), Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi(1966), and Ankhen(1968); and with Saira Banu in Shaa, in which he was the alternate lead, but with negative portents, and Resham Ki Dori( 1974). Dharmendra formed a successful pairing with Meena Kumari and participated on the screen in seven flicks, videlicet Main Bhi Ladki Hoon( 1964), Kaajal( 1965), Purnima( 1965), Phool Aur Patthar( 1966), Majhli Didi, Chandan Ka Palna, and Baharon Ki Manzil were all released in 1967.

 

His most successful mate was Hema Malini, who would latterly come his woman. Raja Jani, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sharafat, Naya Zamana, Patthar Aur Payal, Tum Haseen Main Jawaan, Jugnu, Dost, Charas, Maa, Chacha Bhatija, Azaad, and Sholay were among the films in which the couple appeared together.

Dharmendra was a member of the Lok Sabha in Rajasthan and represented Bikaner’s Bharatiya Janata Party from 2004 to 2009. During the 2004 election crusade, he was heavily blamed for making the controversial statement that he should be tagged as the leader of the administration. In 1983, Dharmendra innovated a product company called Vijayta Flicks.
