He then started working as a travel agent at a local company called “Trade Wings” near the Jehangir art gallery. An accountant for an advertising agency saw him at a bus stop and asked if he’d be interested in modelling. The next day, Shroff used his lunch break to shoot at the National Advertising Agency, located in the same building as Darwar College, near the Flora Fountain. Shooting the shirt introduced Shroff to modelling.
In 1982, Shroff made his film debut with Dev Anand’s Swami Dada. In 1983, Subhash Ghai, along with Meenakshi Sheshadri, gave him the role of Hero. The film was a critical and commercial success and was one of the highest-grossing films of 1983. With “Heroes,” both Shroff and Seshadri became stars.
He continued to work on Subhash Ghai’s films, no matter what was offered. After “Hero”, he made a few more movies, like “Andar Baja”. So did Jaanoo and Yudh. In 1986, he made Karma, the biggest hit of 1986. His next movie was Kaash.
Later films, such as Dahleez and Sachché Ká Bol-Bálá, earned positive reviews but bombed at the box office. However, he achieved success with films such as Ram Lakhan, Tridev, and Parinda, which won him the best actor award. He acted in big movies like Saudagar, Angaar, Sapne Sajan Ke, Gardish, Khalnayak, 1942: A Love Story, Rangela, Agnisakshi, Border, and Shapath in the 1990s.
