Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said that the government is focused to make India a $1 trillion digital economy which includes new technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, digital payments, e-commerce, and IoT(internet of things).
“India took 55 years to raise its economy to $1 trillion whereas in the past 5 years, under the Narendra Modi government Indian economy has reached the milestone of $2.7 trillion. The next goal is to reach $5 trillion economy. The government is keen to make digital economy a $1 trillion economy, “Prasad said.
He also mentioned at ‘Google for India’ that the government is actively working upon creating an India envisioned by P.M. in 2014, where IT + IT = IT (Information technology + Indian Talent = India Tomorrow).
“Digital India is designed is such a way that every Indian is empowered with technology to make their lives better and foster digital inclusion. Digital empowerment is at its peak in the country from buying grocery, job search, digital services, financial technology,” said the Union Minister for electronics and information technology.
The government is encouraging technologies such as the massive growth of digital payments to give Indians access to a variety of platforms, he also added that the companies should safeguard the privacy of the user and extra efforts should be made ensuring no abuse to these systems.
“Several efforts by the central government to promote extensive use of digital platforms and services in India, various policies on open source, software products, and electronic manufacturing,” said Prasad.
India today is the second-largest mobile manufactures in the world which elaborates the manufacturing of electronics in India, in 2014 India just had 2 mobile factories and today there are 269 factories registered with Noida alone has 92 mobile factories adding this Prasad said government is focusing on creating India into a huge center for manufacturing mobile phones.
Companies like Google will play a crucial role in helping India reach its $1 trillion digital economy target and urged them to make products in India and export them to the world. Google announced a new AI research lab in Bengaluru at its fifth edition of the annual India event.
