After almost nine years with the edtech company, Hemesh Singh, a cofounder of Unacademy, which is backed by SoftBank, said on Saturday that he is leaving his position as chief technology officer.
Established in 2015 by Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh, and Roman Saini, Unacademy facilitates the connection between educators and learners across different fields to enhance skills through a range of course offerings. Online and offline learning subscriptions generate revenue for the company.
“I have chosen to transition from an executive role to an advisory role after nearly ten years of building Unacademy with Gaurav munjal and Roman saini,” he wrote in a post.
“I am so happy to have been a part of this journey; it has been an amazing ride.” We succeeded in permanently altering the test-prep industry,” he said.
According to Singh’s LinkedIn profile, he spent more than a year working at Flatchat, a mobile platform that assists bachelors and students in finding housing and roommates, before joining the company. Gaurav Munjal is the company’s CEO.
“I started working with Hemesh eleven years ago while we were developing Flatchat. Having a co-founder like you has been amazing, and I am thankful for the insane ride,” Munjal remarked.
In 2015, Singh, Munjal, and Roman Saini established Unacademy. The Bengaluru-based startup states that it has over 99 million learners and 91K registered educators (teachers) in its network.
Vivek Sinha, the chief operations officer of Unacademy, announced his resignation from the company on LinkedIn and X in August 2023. CFO Subramanian Ramachandran had submitted his resignation at the exam preparation startup in October 2023.
Separately, on May 31, ET revealed that the unicorn in edtech had modified its plans for Munjal and Singh to obtain more voting rights through bonus shares that would be granted to them in 2022.
