Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad(IIT-H) will collaborate with 4 main institutions in Japan to perform research in various fields including earthquake engineering. The premier institute will, in addition, add dual doctoral programmes. The collaboration will be a major improvement to Indo-Japanese collaborations in academic and research fields.
Prof BS Murty, Director, IIT-H, signed the MoUs together with the Institutions during his recent trip to Japan. The MoUs had been signed with Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Research Division (EDMRD), National Research Institute for Disaster Resilience and Earth Science on earthquake engineering, Graduate School of Technology and Science, Shizuoka University, on Doctoral Degree Sandwich Program, Saitama on Academic Exchange of students, students and implementation of cooperative Research Projects and programs that are educational.
Prof Murty also held talks with Nagoya Electric Works, Nihon University for a talk on the Japanese Technical Cooperation Project for Smart Cities for Emerging Countries based on sensing, big data analysis and network of Multimodal Regional Transport System.
Prof Murty stated, “IIT-H has signed MoUs with academic institutions in Japan to get Joint supervision Program wherever research students are able to go there and continue a bit of aspect of their research in these institutions. The students will be given two Ph.D. degrees. These collaborations will also concentrate on the faculty exchange program and scale quality research. MoU with NIMs may benefit students with fellowship while MoU with E-DMRD is developing technology for Earthquake resistance developing. The overall aim is enhancing the quality of research in the institute.”
The collaboration with EDMRD, National Research Institute for Disaster Resilience and Earth Science, seeks to build a high-level cooperative framework for each institution in deep earthquake engineering with an emphasis on numerical simulation. The Institutions are going to undertake joint research activities, joint seminars, faculty exchange, internship opportunities in the two institutions along with other academic exchange programs.
The MoU in between the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT-H and Shizuoka Faculty, envisages the launch associated with a Doctoral Degree Sandwich Program(DDSP). Both Institutions will provide this training course for their Doctoral students, in which they are able to get up research activities in partner Institutions. The DDSP students will be viewed as ‘visiting students’ from the respective multitude of Institutions.
As part of the effort with the Saitama University of Japan, the 2 colleges will exchange other staff members and faculty, exchange students, program & implement cooperative research projects and programs that are educational, and exchange academic components, information, and publications.
Further, Prof Murty and Nagoya Electric Works, Nihon Faculty discussed the performance on the M2Smart Laboratory, inaugurated on 28 May 2019. It’s helped attain a significant enhancement of visitors’ automobile detection by utilizing Ahmedabad Traffic Monitoring System. Both Institutions are currently thinking about cooperation in video recognition technologies.
IIT-H will collaborate with four major Institutions in Japan.
