Chennai: ‘India is among the top 3 startup-ecofriendly nations in the world’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
While addressing students at the 56th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras on Monday Modi said, “the best part of India’s start-up is that the innovators are from 2 tier, 3 tier, rural India and small towns. In the world of start-ups, the language you speak matters far less than the language you can code in. You have the opportunity to create your name rather than using the power of your surname”.
The Prime Minister also praised the’ vibrant startup ecosystem’ in IIT-M while stressing on the huge business opportunity for businesses and innovators in India today. “About 200 startups seem to have been incubated here,” he said. “I saw initiatives to come down with electric powered mobility, IoT, healthcare, Artificial Intelligence and other things. Startups must develop special Indian brands which will help make the place of theirs in the world market within the future,” he added.
For research and development the government is working to create a robust ecosystem, he added.
“Artificial Intelligence, robotics, machine learning, state-of-the-art technology are all being introduced to students much earlier. When a student will come to an institution and would like to focus on innovation, there are Atal Incubation Center’s being developed in a lot of institutions. The next challenge is finding a market to create a startup. The Startup India programme is meant to allow you to come across these challenges. This programme is going to support innovations to find their way to the market,” he stated.
He urged students to always think of the way their research, innovation, and work may help fellow Indians.It wasn’t only asocial responsibility, but additionally a choice which makes immense business sense, he included, showcasing a handful of places that they might focus on.
“Can you find the most effective and cost-efficient to recycle water at our home, offices and industries so that fresh water extraction and use is reduced”, he added. “Can you locate the most cost effective and innovative ways to reuse water consumption in the homes of ours, industries and offices so that our fresh water extraction and use is reduced,” he asked.
“Asa society, we wish to move beyond single use plastics, so what could be an environment friendly replacement that provides similar use but not the similar disadvantages. A lot of the diseases which affect huge areas of the population won’t be the traditional contagious diseases,it is going to be lifestyle disease like hypertension, kind II diabetes, being overweight, worry.
With the area of data science maturing and with the presence of data across the disease, technology is able to find a way to look for patterns.

India’s development is a great blend of utility and economics and IIT-M is created in this tradition, he stated.
