The creator of the test-prep company PhysicsWallah, Alakh Pandey, has pleaded with the Supreme Court to launch an inquiry into claims of irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024, this year’s all-India medical entrance exam.
Speaking out on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) examination scandal, Pandey has launched a public interest lawsuit and requested an independent commission investigate the situation.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) awarded grace marks to around 1,500 candidates who took the NEET-UG 2024 exam; there are also claims that the question material was leaked.
With its headquarters located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Physics Wallah Private Limited, also referred to as Physics Wallah or just PW, is a global Indian firm that specializes in educational technologies. Alakh Pandey started the business in 2016 as a YouTube channel with the goal of instructing students in physics for the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE).
The Physics Wallah app, developed in 2020 by Pandey and his partner Prateek Maheshwari, gave students access to courses designed to prepare them for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The edtech said in a statement that Pandey and his attorney believe that the problems and anomalies threatening the legitimacy of the competitive entrance exam for undergraduate medical programs can only be found through a comprehensive inquiry.
Additionally, Pandey has asked the court to mandate a re-examination.
“I have faith in the legal system and the courts. Justice will be served to our pupils,” Pandey stated in a post on X.
He also criticized the organization for its inability to provide a formula for awarding pupils honors.
Mr. Pandey asserted that the incident has demotivated the students, who have given up and are questioning whether or not to pursue careers as doctors. “Students were admitted to government medical colleges in several states with scores of 610, 620, and 630. However, a score of even 650 today seems uncertain. Either the paper leak or the fact that many students are getting grace numbers are the causes of this, Mr. Pandey stated.
He went on, “66 students received 720 points.” These 66 students would not be able to secure a spot at AIIMS Delhi because there are only 46 public seats available at AIIMS.
“Why was the paper set like this, in which even after securing full marks the student won’t be getting a seat in the top college?” Mr. Pandey asked in reference to the format of the question papers. The one thing that really bothered me was that the NTA director ought to have been more explicit in what she said during the news conference. He ought to have said the truth.
There are claims that there are differences in the findings that were announced on June 4, as ET had previously reported. Six of the 67 individuals who received the top rank were from the same Haryana center. Concerns have also been expressed about certain candidates receiving grace marks.
The NTA, however, has refuted the accusations and stated that no anomalies occurred.
As per the report by ET, the NTA stated that the modifications made to the NCERT textbooks and the bestowing of grace marks were.
CONCLUSION : Alakh Pandey, creator of test-prep company PhysicsWallah, has filed a public interest lawsuit against the National Testing Agency (NTA) for allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam, claiming grace marks and leaked question material.
