An intelligent agent (IA) in artificial intelligence (AI) is a computer system that is built to perform complex tasks on its own in dynamic conditions that are continually changing. IA agents can perceive their environment and their interactions with the outside world, respond properly, and learn from their failures in order to make better judgements in the future. They can function in the users’ place by employing natural language processing to converse and respond to user requests or commands. Intelligent agents include personal assistants like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri, as well as robotic systems that search the internet for information, autonomous vehicles that drive themselves through traffic safely, virtual shopping assistants that recommend products, and automated customer service chatbots that respond to frequently asked questions.
