The Economist Intelligence Unit’s report of 2019 named Singapore as the smartest city in the world. The city tops the list of 140 cities that were considered for this ranking which takes into account their use of digital technology, sustainability and inclusion. Other cities that featured in the top five are Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul and London. The report also highlighted how Singapore is leading efforts to design policies dealing with climate change, pollution and housing affordability challenges along with rapid urbanization. Moreover, it is actively investing in areas such as smart mobility systems and healthcare infrastructure for citizens to drive better quality outcomes for its residents.
