Kerala government has requested Artificial Intelligence companies from developing a facial identification and a real-time mass surveillance system to be deployed across the state. Permanent cameras will be deployed at railway stations, bus stands, T-points, road junctions, and other public places if required mobile units can be deployed at a special place to record the venue such as a protest or any trouble spots. These surveillance cameras will be connected to powerful computers, and any person whose data has been entered into the system will be detected in minutes if the person steps in front of any camera installed across the state.
The government of Kerala constituted “a strategic think-tank and advisory body” in the name of Kerala Development & Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC).
At present this approach is implemented in China where every citizen should have a file opened in his/her name in a mass surveillance called “social credit system”.
Once the system is installed in the state, police officials will be able to enter any persons name and Aadhaar number and will get the exact location of the person if in case the person is not at any public place so the system will tell the last location of the person, the system will also be able to used to set up alarms based on a watch list created.
In case any person on the watch list is in front of any of the cameras which is linked to the computer system, a notification is actually produced right away along with a message is sent to the police. Everyone, guilty or innocent, who passes in front of the camera will have his/her photo taken.
This picture is then uploaded to the primary computer, which is going to use artificial intelligence as well as machine learning to quickly examine the face features of that individual with face features of everybody in the watch list. So as the photo matches, an alert is sent to the police.
What’s not clear is currently if the photograph is going to be removed from the system when there’s no match, or whether it’ll be retained for mass tracking as well as surveillance, as is done in China.
The system designed in Kerala would also work if the identity of the individual is not known – such as in the event of a protest, or maybe violence or social media video clip. This’s made crystal clear in the request for proposal, that claims that the system must have the ability to extract facial recognition data from any video or maybe picture, and then simply put it in the watch list.
Due to this, even if the person is unknown to the police and does not have criminal records of any type, he/she may be arrested if any video of that individual doing something illegal is actually found on social networking.
Social media is a platform where people uploads video to get famous doing illegal things such as killing dogs, throwing stones, abusing politician as well as business leaders, burning flags, exposing themselves, etc.
After the system is completely functional, individuals that are actually showcased in such viral videos carrying out such tasks could be immediately arrested making use of the watch list as well as alert system, the moment they step out upon the street or perhaps some other public place.
The program will even be applied to track down individuals that have run away from the homes of theirs or perhaps are normally reported missing. This might be news that is bad for lovers, as numerous households file missing individual issues when their daughters’ run away’ with regards to their boyfriends as a result of opposition from the family members to the relationship.
The program can also be used commonly by the visitor’s policy to recognize drivers in case of other violations and hit-and-run accidents like jumping the signal, driving that is dangerous and so on.
