Job Duties

As the Data Architect, you will leverage your technical expertise to oversee and enhance the firm’s data operations. You will play a pivotal role in analyzing and documenting existing systems, facilitating modernization plans, and actively participating in data governance initiatives. This position demands top-tier SQL skills complemented by a blend of business, technical, and strategic insights.

Your responsibilities will include:

Documenting data systems: Establishing an inventory of all data systems, maintaining comprehensive documentation on functionality, data schema, data flows, and related information.

Analyzing existing SQL Server code, data structures, and configurations, identifying opportunities for system improvement and modernization.

Providing recommendations for migrating workloads from SQL Server to Azure.

Developing and maintaining data architectures, ensuring alignment with organizational data requirements, storage, processing, and integration needs.

Maturing and modernizing the existing data estate, reviewing and enhancing on-premises SQL Server workloads, and facilitating a seamless migration to the cloud.

Additional Responsibilities may include:

Assisting in developing and implementing a data governance program, contributing to the design and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.

Overseeing data classification and security measures, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices.

Developing data lineage standards, tracking data from source to application usage, and ensuring data quality and traceability.

Ensuring data security and compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Providing technical guidance to data professionals, including engineers, scientists, analysts, and others.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and design solutions that meet requirements.

Job Requirements

Required Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of experience designing and developing Microsoft SQL-based data management solutions for large enterprises.

Minimum of 3 years of architect-level experience in both on-premise SQL Server and cloud-based data solutions in Azure, including Synapse and Azure Data Factory.

Experience participating in successful data warehouse migrations from on-premises SQL Server to Azure.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or engineering.

Skills & Technical Requirements:

Expertise in SQL Server and Azure Synapse administration and development.

Proficiency in data engineering using SSIS and Azure Data Factory.

Experience with cloud analytics and reporting tools such as PowerBI and Databricks/Spark.

Strong knowledge of data solution architectures and documentation creation.

Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting to senior technical and business management.

Experience leading small to medium-sized teams of business and technical resources.

Desired Skills & Experience:

Experience in data governance, privacy, and compliance.

Familiarity with DevOps principles and project management methodologies.

Working knowledge of SDLC and IT operations.

Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Data Certifications are advantageous.

Strong client focus and customer service skills.
