I was not satisfied. I took Modeling and Visualization, credited by Monash University. Duration of the course is 4 weeks that is 12 hours per week of learning.
The material and topics covered were accurate, but the high school level, in my opinion. I was interested in what they would present and maybe pick up a gem or two from the practitioners delivering the course, but I got nothing. And for sure, the course made no such promise, but it was the only content on this topic available at the time. It seemed to focus on marketing policies with nothing practical.
The fee structure is also very high, no one can afford that. They did not provide any scholarship or monthly EMI payment option, which can be a relaxation for those from middle-class backgrounds.
FutureLearn is created by Monash University, although they will not provide you with any career guidance and placement facility, which is essential for every student.
Also, there is no option for an internship by which you can go through the industry work environment and have some working knowledge with the working professionals. In your course duration, you can only be a student, nothing else, you will not gain any experience.
FutureLearn did not provide 1:1 counseling to their students; they only made money, nothing else.
I couldn’t recommend Future Learn, especially for those fresher in the field of data science. Those wanting to elaborate their skill set in a particular area of study and those just wanting to learn something new. The courses give some helpful information, but they are not dynamic and don’t lead to anything, even though they say some courses can lead to degrees. I think FutureLearn is misleading people. They do their marketing on social media. Everything positive that is written on social media is paid marketing done by them. The fee structure is also a big issue for this institute. They also provide you with a course called Microcredential, under which they will promise to enhance your skills which is just a way of looting money from the students.
They promise to give the benefit of a full-time degree through this micro-credential course, but it’s only an illusion so that they can attract students to the institute and its courses. The staff is also not educated enough to give services, and their behavior is unsuitable for the students.
I regularly use futurelearn to help further me to understand and learn new things I enjoy doing as hobbies and for educational purposes. I have completed 2 courses there and received certificates of achievement; all their courses are created by Monash university. So far, I’ve gained a certificate of achievement in 2 of the courses, and I plan to continue.
I find that futurelearn is helpful as I am a fresher, so I can have basic knowledge and training through online courses, which are pretty straightforward. You can do them in your own time with some you would have to work and get your information, and they also have their courses to help you learn how to do online courses, which is a real help. And if you do the courses on the dates they are supposed to be, you also get help from the tutors in charge of that particular course. Overall my experience with futurelearn is excellent and I will probably be using it for years. Future Learn is the platform where you will likely find the quality to be of a great standard.
FutureLearn provides a very disappointing and time-wasting data science course, and this course will not help you to get placed in a good company. I completed the Future Learners’ Data Science: Data-Driven Decision Making program, a data science course. I had an awful and worst experience with this course. This course’s small duration attracted me, which was my biggest mistake. This 12 weeks data science program is so short that I find it difficult to get sound and complete knowledge of all the concepts of data wrangling, data sampling, designing ML algorithms, and learning R language.
The program was running very fast, and the teachers did not pay attention to resolve student doubts. Now, let me tell you how they work with my assignments. FutureLearn claims to provide practical knowledge through assignments and projects. I completed my assignment on time and submitted them for feedback. I got feedback for initial assignments, and after that, they rarely gave feedback, and I think they did not even check my projects.
The online sessions needed to be appropriately designed and well organized; they were unrelated to the previous classes. The teacher starts teaching topics at his convenience; he gives references of complex and lengthy topics, mostly from Youtube and Wikipedia. The instructors were not industry experts, and they were like the ones who just mugged up the everyday lesson and started teaching. My instructor never related topics with real-world examples.
One of the instructors was good, but he took more or less 2-3 weeks and taught complex topics. Somehow, I completed the course and got a course completion certificate that is not industry-level and did not help me get the job. The certificate is just a showpiece, and I found no use. Friends, do not enroll for this course as I am still struggling with NLP and R language concepts for data processing.
