I want to leave my share of the experience that I had with MICA. From admission, classes, and curriculum to placement, you will be tricked now and then. At the time of admission, they will take an entrance test that they have prepared, only they know the question and their answers, but you will not get any response on how well you have performed on your test and they will offer you the fee. Their curriculum is pretty old compared to the fee charged. On top of that, their placement team is bogus too.
After reading the reviews on this website, I was a little anxious about placing my order, but I shouldn’t have been. The posters and wall stickers I got are excellent! superior to the images on the website. They are lovely and well-mannered. The delivery service arrived really quickly. I would definitely suggest this company, and I will be getting more wall art soon.
MICA, some people from the institute will call it as an overrated place and some as an experience.
I’ll try to write an honest answer for the people who are willing to invest 20 lakhs in 2020 batch to start their PGDM journey.
Note: This answer will only have CONS as all the other answers have PROS which are true (only) in case of campus life (which is great). This answer will focus on Student quality, placements and ROI.
Cons:
Below par batch diversity – Yes, diversity is not defined by gender ratio but by the people you are surrounded by. Most of the people come from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad with almost similar profiles.
Batch Quality – The most disappointing thing at MICA. There are only 20% (~30 people) people from good colleges (but they are really good). Most common being St. Xaviers’ Kolkata, DU, LSR and a few others. 80% of the batch is below par and you would hardly find someone from IITs/NITs/BITS/SRCC/Stephens. My batch, my senior batch and my junior batch had combined number of 8 out of ~600 people combined.
Out of this 80%, most of the students are from local colleges in their city with minimum exposure and their UG degree being equivalent to three-four years of doing nothing. The academic profile is on these lines:
BBA/Bcom /B.tech from Nanki Devi Random College of Management/Sciences/Engineering.
80–90% in 10th.
75–85% in 12th.
65–75% in UG from a Tier 5 college.
Note – I have seen people with 5 CGPA from engineering colleges in Mumbai/Indore with no creativity (what MICA vouches for) in 2 years during the course. They are as stupid as a cupboard lying in your room when you have conversation with it.
Yes, these people might have worked hard to get into MICA (highly unlikely seeing academic profile), but without mincing my words its supply demand relation where MICA gets money and students, jobs. Rest assured, anyone saying they are passionate about MICA, is hoax. They should better opt for CCC program whose students are more passionate, creative & hardworking.
The placements and Internships are random AF. BUT, we have GREAT summer placements season (at least for 60% batch) and if you are lucky enough to get through a good company in the season with PPO after summers, your 2 years at MICA would be cakewalk.
Final placements are disappointing and if you are summers went bad with no PPO, you go through same rigor for Final Placements. The worst part about placements is that your GPA from first 4 trimesters doesn’t event go on your CV. Even if you are topper of the batch, it doesnt matter. MICA pulls down a student with good acads to a level at par with a person scoring 2.4/4 GPA.
The placement policies here at MICA is very good though which you will not see at other colleges. You have every right to accept or reject an offer in stipulated time. The committee doesn’t differentiate people and pressurize you to sit for a random company. If you don’t want to sit for VIVO process (inside joke), its your call. Kudos to Placement team.
If you are willing to try your luck at MICA, try to score good percentile in CAT with decent MICAT score, you might just land up in a place which will give you surprise at every moment.
The hostels are really good, with a nice mess and sports facilities. In the second year, you get your own room. The library is awesome, with lots of books. The campus feels open and natural, with many trees. For academics, there are lots of case studies and guest lectures. Programs like Rural Immersion or International Immersion give different experiences. Meeting industry professionals is helpful too. Placements are decent, with good job profiles. But, the fees have been going up since 2020. It is not very difficult to get the placement there. Overall, great experience but placements can be a task for some people.
