I don’t understand why Product School gets such great reviews. Most of the learning is done through videos and slides, which are informative, but the online platform isn’t easy to use, especially for a tech product management school. The promised 36.5 hours of instructor-led learning aren’t really instructor-led; most of the time, you’re working on a group project. The project tools in Mural are confusing, and there’s not much guidance. It’s frustrating when a team member doesn’t cooperate, especially since you’re stuck with them throughout the class. Definitely not worth the price tag.
I wanted to love it, but I would not suggest the Product School to students who want to go into Product Management for the first time. While the PM Certificate course provides an overview of what it means to be a project manager, it is only that. There was minimal practical experience, and the content consisted primarily of PowerPoint presentations. We did some group exercises, but they weren’t as effective as they could have been. Because there were students with prior project management expertise mixed in with those without, the group projects were typically overseen by experienced PMs.
As a student with no prior experience, this made it tough to learn and practice. Though there was homework, our instructor hinted that they would not provide any extra input beyond what we had previously discussed in class, as the homework was the same as our group projects.
There’s no real school for Product Management, but working with industry experts is the best way to learn. The PLC course content was decent, though similar information is available for much less elsewhere. The real value came from having a great instructor. Navin Nair taught our class, and I loved his teaching style. He facilitated good class discussions on various topics, used real-life examples instead of just reading from slides, and made sure we all participated and discussed our different outcomes in the exercises.
