Top Indian Business schools including IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A), IIM Calcutta (IIM-C) and IIM Udaipur (IIM-U) are applying systems that map student’s data and make use of analytics to enhance academics.
IIM-A is applying a’ student life cycle control system’ that is going to cover student data including a summer internship, grades, scheduling, and admission information and placement details, stated Shailesh Gandhi, the institute’s dean (programmes). The program, to be applied from the following year, will be built with data analytics features, Gandhi said.
SAP, which has created the system, said the program is able to offer intelligent inputs to students, such as suggesting what sort of newspapers to relate to when working on an assignment. The program is going to be in a position to offer constant comments on student activity, the institute and which teachers are able to utilize to enhance students’ overall performance and tweak academic offerings
A spokesperson for IIM-U stated they’re applying a similar program, which may assist the institute to evaluate how students are learning, recognize trends and problem areas, and current solutions
Campus Management Corporation, the business which has offered the software to IIM-U, said the program is going to analyze factors like attendance, assignment submission as well and this, they are able to find at-risk students who might then be provided special interest, stated Raj Mruthyunjayappa, managing director of the organization for Europe, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific and Africa.
IIM-C said it uses artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to evaluate student performance. It has helped the institute map students’ weaknesses and strengths stated its spokesperson.
The institute has also independently been analyzing how students are doing with particular classes on steps like’ critical thinking’ and have long been in a position to boost student’s performance from batch-to-batch.
Institutes also are making use of data analytics to better manage admissions. Researchers at IIM U Ronojoy Basu and N Viswanathan, doing work in cooperation with Subhamoy Ganguly of the University of Auckland, have proved helpful on a data science-based model which calculates the maximum amount of rounds and offers they have to make to ensure that seats get loaded up and students have to spend much less time during admissions.
Viswanathan claimed the model may be used by every institute by using data from the previous year’s admissions.
