According to my personal experience and the Coursera reviews I read, Coursera will definitely help you to learn about Data Science with a non-technical background. The faculty is excellent and knowledgeable, which will help you understand the concepts easily.
They will teach you about ML and AI. Coursera provides you with a Master of Applied Data Science affiliated with the University of Michigan, under which you will be able to
Use data to improve outcomes and achieve aspiring goals.
Master in core data science concepts like machine learning and natural language processing.
Understand critical topics such as privacy, data ethics, and persuasive communication.
Build predictive models and visualize data in dashboards.
Formulate better problem statements for data-informed solutions.
Coursera helped me to prefer a data scientist’s place without any previous experience in the field. Having a non-technical background, I was a little hesitant before entering the course, but Coursera helped me regain that confidence. Now I am much more comfortable in this field than before.

Hi, I am a B.A pass out from Delhi University. As I am from a non-technical background and a middle-class family, I want to do a course by which I can get tremendous growth in my career to support my family financially.
I heard a lot about Data Science courses from friends and relatives; I also saw some ads and online publicity about the same. Then I decided to search about the course and institutes that provided the course with a reasonable fee structure.
After getting a basic knowledge about the course and eligibility to get admitted to it, I was a little bit hesitant as I am from a non-technical background. But as I wanted a bright career, I took the plunge to get into the course. Then I started searching for institutes to help me in my situation, and I got information about Coursera.
Coursera is one of the best institutes that provide ‘Master of Applied Data Science.’ I took admission in that course. It has been 3 months now, and I am happy to get admission to Coursera.
As per my condition (my family background) and after seeing my academics, Coursera also provided me a scholarship for the program to pursue my course without any tension. Coursera provides theoretical and practical knowledge, which is the best part of this Institute.
Everything is going on smoothly till now, and I also hope for the best in the future. They provide a query session in which the teachers take the doubts from the students and resolve them. The faculty members are friendly and humble, with a pool of knowledge.
I look forward to a bright future as I am more confident than before. Now I can say that my decision to get admission to Coursera’s Master of Applied Data Science was right.
There is a No from my side for Coursera.
Hi, I am a student of Coursera; 5 months ago, I was admitted to Coursera after searching on social media and seeing their advertisement. I took admission thinking about the good future ahead, but as I came from a non-technical background I faced some difficulties in which Coursera didn’t support me.
At the time of admission they said they will provide me some extra classes to improve my technical side, but after getting admitted, they said I have to work myself to enhance my skills. So I have to search for content on google or YouTube. I don’t understand what the benefit of giving them a high sum of money if we have to search for study material on google and YouTube.
I noticed one more thing: the study material they provide to their students is also available on social networking sites for free. So according to me there is no benefit to give them a high amount.
They also provide student education loans, which can be paid after students get placed in their working domain. Still, the worst part is that the interest is very high to this amount, And to get a scholarship, you have to fulfill all the terms and conditions that are very complicated.
As came from a non-technical background, I faced more difficulties as they checked your Python and Statistics Proficiency at the time of admission, And at the same time, they made you write some essays on the topics they would give to you.
As Coursera is affiliated with the University of Michigan, English is the priority for them that a student must have. They give an assessment to those who are Non-Native English speakers.
I am a non-technical graduate student, and after my UG, I heard about data science with its increasing demand and second highest priority job. I learned that data science is a multidisciplinary field, and non-tech students can also become experts with handsome salaries in MNCs and businesses. All these facts and figures about data science attracted me, and I started searching for a data science course on Google.
One day, I got a call from Coursera to join their Master of Applied Data Science program. Initially, I said No, but they kept calling and convinced me to enroll in this course, and I paid the full fee without any discounts or offers—the most significant mistake of my career.
Let me elaborate on my experience from this Coursera data science course. Being a non-tech student, I expected a lot from Coursera, and they promised to help me in learning python and ML, but that was a false promise. I faced many challenges, and it was challenging to understand the technical terminologies.
I referred to different platforms to resolve my doubts and learn the basics of python. Teachers are not prepared and have not done their homework. Teachers are not industry experts or professionals. They do not know and are forced to teach.
Coming to the career guidance, after completing 90% of the syllabus, I called them for help in placement. The Coursera team did not show interest and said we would notify you once your resume gets noticed by some company. Until now, there has been no response, and I am searching for a job.
Friends, if you are from a non-technical background, please do not enroll for this data science course by Coursera, as their team will not help you learn from scratch.
Being a non-tech student, it was tough for me to begin my career journey as a data scientist. But, I want to be an expert data scientist, so I started looking for some online data science courses. Meanwhile, I got a call from Coursera for their Master of Applied Data Science Program, and they said this course is entirely for no-tech students like me. I am at the right place and have what I am looking for.
Without considering, I submitted the fee and started learning with lots of hope. The initial session was good by a foreign faculty, but it was fundamentals of data science, which were very easy to understand. After going through more profound and more complex parts of data science, it became difficult to learn. All my dreams vanished as I could not understand what they were teaching. I tried to contact faculty members for doubts, but they gave the same response, “we will update you soon.” The classes were not productive, and it was not easy to understand data science concepts. It was a ridiculous and time-wasting course. Initially, Coursera told me to complete the course in 12 months, but it was not, and they completed the course in 19 months; every other day, they took off with senseless points.
They need to be professional and understand the value of time of candidates. As a non-tech student, I accepted extra support to become familiar with data science and python terminologies, but it was not. I searched here and there to resolve my doubts. It is not a good course, and you will waste your time and money if you are going to enroll. Try some other institutes that are professional and have professional teaching staff. I will give only a 2.1 rating out of 5 to this data science course by Coursera.
