I strongly oppose this! Udacity’s data scientist nanodegree course is more of a scam. The program had two terms that I had to pay for separately. In the last couple of months, they split the program into two different programs. But they didn’t give me credit for both programs. I asked them for a way employers can verify that I completed the first term of my nanodegree, and they said tough luck. During the program, the mentors were horrible. There is no guidance. There is a lack of experience in the teaching method of the mentors, I would have appreciated them if they had provided more suitable content rather than just bluffing around in their website.
The course they provide is just for four months, in my view if you are a beginner and want to pursue data science as your career option and a mere 4 month course is not enough to give you a detailed view about the subject. Hence, if you still go head on with the course you will face a lot of problems when you are on the floor because your basics are not clear. Eventually, this will lead to a performance drop. On the other hand I would also like to highlight the other issue where I faced rude behavior from the management when I had a doubt regarding a topic for repeated times.
Rather than resolving my issue they behaved in a very inappropriate manner. I believe that Money is a hard-earned asset and if you want to invest it then Udacity is not the platform. The only additional service money gets you is the one-on-one mentoring sessions. If you find yourself stuck at a certain problem or a specific concept is eluding you, you might find the mentor help worth the money.
If you are confident in getting the necessary help from the course forums and StackOverflow etc. The only advantage they offer is the guarantee for a job but it is more about the skills than the certificates. If you can work on a cool project or two by applying what you have learnt from the nanodegree courses and other similar sources, you are very much capable of landing yourself a job on your own. If you just want to be introduced to the field then probably any online course in this field would be helpful and you may not need to spend money.
On the other hand if you want a job and want to show projects in this area then also arguably you could access online courses for free from various platforms and push the project to your own benefit You may spend less money and/or do some free online courses with a friend to achieve same result. As you already know; taking this course/nanodegree won’t make you an expert in this field neither will it guarantee job offers, so be wise enough and look for alternatives. I would conclude by saying, your future is in your hands and if you want a bright future then Udacity is not the platform.
I have been a part of their four month course and trust me this was not what i had expected. If you are a beginner or a learner in the initial stage of Data science , then this is not for you .To understand the course material, you should have an understanding of Python, SQL, Machine Learning, and Statistics. Because Udacity Data Science Nanodegree is an advanced-level program. The Nanodegree program is all new and chances are, a potential employer might have no idea about it but they’ll probably still evaluate you based off of your resume and portfolio.Like any other educational program or institution, you can skate by with the bare minimum and earn a piece of paper or certification. I think you’re missing the point, and your potential employer will see nothing in your profile.
There are various other platforms which have collaborated with different instutions like MIT, IIT Madras but when it comes to Udacity I did not find anything as such, Though in their website they have mentioned about placement but will they guarantee it? I still doubt, Based on my personal experience I would say that I have wasted my four months by enrolling in their course and wasted my time. When it comes to their syllabus It seems to be very basic and there is no distinctive features. You can easily find some of their materials available for free in the internet, If this was the case then What is the need to charge for fees?
Data Science is one of the top career choices at present. If you are interested in becoming a data scientist, you need to understand all the important aspects that it covers. Some of them are:
Looking at the syllabus of the School of Data Science offered by Udacity, it seems they are not covering many important topics step by step. So a more collective approach is required. Ask yourself first will it seriously benefit you or is it just a money and time consuming drill. If you look and compare it with other platforms like data trained you would find that similar courses and contents are at a much affordable price with a more relatable approach.
This course ultimately gets linked to their nano degree program, where you have to pay some fees to get in-depth knowledge, now this is a contrasting aspect. Why is the need to pay again for their nano degree programme when the amount was paid earlier. This does not justify their module, so it’s basically like you have to pay an amount to enroll for a different stage within the module. I was promised that I would have lifetime access to the teaching material at Udacity but they must have recently changed their policy. It states that I will not have access to material after a certain date but I will be able to download it. I tried to download the material but I could not. I am not quite sure how it will work out in the end, not sure if I would be able to follow the course with downloaded material. So from my side it’s a big No for Udacity.
You will find a lot of reviews over the internet regarding Udacity data science course but Trust Me! This is so far the best course currently available in all the platforms. Their main point is the video lectures which are available and their teaching faculty are experts in their field. Do, go through this article for a better understanding about Udacity platform for Data Science.
Udacity’s Data Science courses are exceptional. The material is concise but thorough, and the exercises and projects provide good practice. If you’re dead serious about wrapping your head around data science, you can’t go wrong with Udacity. That said, there are a few reasons why you may want to consider alternatives.
The first is that, in growing their catalog and keeping their content up-to-date (and most of their courses are fresh, complete with latest trends and best practices), some of the course materials they offer feel rushed.
Udacity’s quick to fix things. Still, don’t be surprised to find assignments or materials that seem unintuitive or a bit off. These courses are constantly evolving, for better or worse (in the long-run, for better).
The second is that Udacity is a for-profit business. As all businesses are inclined, they tend towards profit. While they’re very kind to offer free intro-level courses, their intent is to funnel learners into one of their Nanodegree programs.
Of course, that in itself isn’t the issue. Nanodegrees are a bit on the steep side. That’s especially true when you factor in how long some of these programs take. The “Data Analyst” program, for example, takes 4 months. That’s assuming you’re able to commit the requisite amount of time each week.
As I have been a part of their course I can say that the approach which has been followed by the mentors is exceptionally good. The way they explain each and every word is so clear. Apart from this, their mock tests have been designed so well and the quality is also relatable to the actual content, kudos! to the Udacity team on that part . My course of 4 months ended last month and it has made me more efficient than before. I now have the ability to increase my performance So Thank you Udacity for the guidance.
The Data Science course is worth it for those who are seriously planning to switch their career in Data Science and their content is advanced and updated combined with Real-World problems . Their One-to-One Mentorship will help you to clear your doubts. Following below are some points which will give you a better understanding about their course.
It can introduce you to recruiters or employees who might recommend/refer you internally.
Thus, I would like to conclude by saying that, Do not have doubt you can make your future better with their course.
I will help you with honest Udacity reviews of data science courses. Data science is creating a lot of buzz in the business, and there are multiple vacancies with a massive gap between demand and supply. After going through numerous plus points of data science experts, I thought to upskill.
I searched various data science courses and have experience in python, SQL, and Statistics. I learned about the Udacity data science course and fulfilled all their prerequisites, and I liked the 4 months data science course. Being a working professional, I cannot spend much time, so just without thorough research and reviews, I enrolled in Udacity’s data science course.
Friends, I was wrong; the course was a waste of money and precious time. There is no organized learning, and teachers need to be more experienced. They just come and complete their chapter without clearing my doubts. The classes were boring, and it became complicated to end the session.
Udacity does not focus on imparting practical knowledge, as data science is about analyzing data and helping companies in data-driven decision-making. They do not help you learn ML’s complex topics and how to implement them in model prediction through algorithms. They claimed to provide industry mentors, but there were no mentors.
There are projects, and I also worked on one major project. I completed the project and submitted it for feedback. I got feedback, but that was not professional and very delayed. Udacity needs to work on paying attention to students’ queries and seriously helping. The course is a way to make money.
This course did not help me in the true sense to crack my dream job of becoming a data scientist. I worked hard to master data science topics and am trying to get a job.
It is NO for this 4 months data science course, and this duration is not enough to cover all data science topics.
