One of the most common types of cancer worldwide is Skin cancer. Among the cancer cases, Skin cancer contributes at least 40% of the cases still people are not able to identify its symptoms on time.
Now to face this problem, a company based in Amsterdam is providing an app for monitoring, detecting skin cancer at the early stage. People tend to miss the early stage symptoms of the Skin cancer which may be simple marks and spots.
However, SkinVision gives a way to track and assess how skin spots change during time.
It requires the user to photograph the spot, post which an in-app machine learning algorithm analyzes it, considering the symptoms of skin cancer, and delivers a low/medium/high-risk report.
What signs are considered by the app?
While analyzing a real skin spot photograph, the machine learning engine of the app looks for early signs of skin cancer, which may include irregular patterns, multiple colors, asymmetry, size, and uneven borders.
SkinVision also reminds the user to check over time.
After the first test, the app reminds the user to go for another test. Then based on the results uses’s can make an informed decision and can get in touch with a general practitioner for a full body check-up.
Accuracy of the app?
A recent study conducted by the investigators at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology shows that the app can detect most forms of skin cancer with 95.1% accuracy.
This way, it can serve as a warning system, giving people a way to go for early treatment, which is likely to be cheaper than later-stage skin cancer treatment.
You can download the SkinVision app by going to play store or the app store on your iOS device, this app is free to download and use but note that this app will collect your assessment results both to improve the algorithm and to provide timely notifications if in case you need urgent medical attention.
